2019 Memorial Day weekend traffic fatalities fewest in four years

12 deaths on Ohio’s roadways were reported during this year’s Memorial Day weekend, according to provisional statistics by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

In 2018, there were 18 traffic deaths during Memorial Day weekend.

Three of this year’s fatalities were the result of not wearing a safety belt when available, two were pedestrians, one was OVI-related and one was not wearing a helmet.

State troopers made 30,979 traffic enforcement contacts, including 568 OVI arrests, 423 drug arrests and 5,259 safety belt citations. Patrol also made 15,765 non-enforcement contacts including 3,537 motorist assists.
