Probe: State withheld $30M-plus in taxpayer money

The Ohio Department of Taxation has wrongfully held millions of dollars in general business taxpayers' money, according to the Ohio Inspector General's Office.

An investigation found thousands of instances where the Ohio Department of Taxation failed to return over $30 million in properly requested refunds, contrary to Ohio law, Inspector General Randall Meyer said Thursday.

"For years, the Ohio Department of Taxation has ignored the fact that they are holding taxpayer money that doesn't belong to the state," Meyer said. "The people who are paying to operate this government deserve to be told the truth about their accounts."
