Payroll Project: Springfield's highest-paid employees

Springfield had nine employees pulling in salaries of more than $100,000 each in 2015. That's up from six employees who made that much in 2014, according to according to a searchable database of local government payroll assembled by the I-Team.

The city of just under 60,000 had 334 employees who made more than $50,000 last year out of 567 total employees (including seasonal and part-time).

According to the data, the five highest-paid Springfield employees last year were:

1. City Manager Jim Bodenmiller: $150,310.

2. Chief Building Officer Roger Mick: $122,615.

3. Law Director Jerry Strozdas: $116,302.

4. Assistant City Manager and Economic Development Director Tom Franzen: $111,765.

5. Deputy Law Director Andrew Burkholder: $111,241.

The top five is unchanged from 2014 except for Mick, who made about $70,000 in base salary and then was paid $59,357 in unused vacation and sick leave upon his retirement.

Rounding out the $100K club were:

6. Police Chief Stephen Moody: $104,495.

7. Fire Chief Nicholas Heimlich: $104,469.

8. Service Director Chris Moore: $101,936.

9. Director of Finance Mark Beckdahl: $100,918.

Moody retired in December but didn’t get any sort of payout in 2015, according to Bodenmiller. He was rehired in March at a lower salary of $83,490 annually.
