The collection is important to area students, United Way of Logan County Director Dave Bezusko said.
“We usually have just about every seat full of school supplies,” he said. “A lot of the times we forget just how expensive it is to get all of the items kids need for school. If you get every item on a school supply list you can be talking $50.”
He said the drive is unique because the supplies go directly to the school, so teachers can have access to what they need at any given time.
Residents should get their supplies to the Bellefontaine Walmart Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. or to the United Way this weekend as the last day for donations will be Monday.
Several area businesses have already donated items to the drive. One of those is Thomas and Marker Construction.
Marie Nicol, with Thomas and Marker, said they always try to help local students.
“We want to get a couple bus seats filled up for the kids,” she said. “We are hoping to do our part.”
“We want to help our local kids and support them and give them all the tools they need this year,” she said.
Bezusko said the schools appreciate the supplies.
“It goes a long way,” he said. “It starts to add up in terms of the help you are able to give.”
