Brown will be launching a program called “Springfield My Brother’s Keeper”.

Springfield City School Superintendent Bob Hill said the program can have a positive impact on his students and the community.
“If we are able to create that strong adult relationship with the students that can change lives and lead students in a more positive direction.
The program works to ensure all students get a good education but also focuses on young minority men to help them reach their full potential.
“Essentially, it’s a program that addresses some of the opportunity gaps that our boys and young men experience,” Hill said. “By providing them with mentors and adult connections, it enables these young men to become more successful in their future aspirations. Everything from entering school and being successful, graduating high school, college and career readiness. With it all leading to being successful in the work force.
“It’s everything we are trying to do in our school district for all of our students,” he said.

The program is aligned with President Barrack Obama’s My Brother’s Keeper initiative.
Hill said the program fits in well with what already happens at the dome. In the YouMedia center, mentors already try to touch the lives of Springfield youth. He said he hopes the government will continue to fund these types of initiatives.
“One of the things that need to happen is the government needs to provide additional dollars for these programs,” he said. “This can be a good catalyst.”
