Highway Hikers prepare for 42nd Christmas Toy Run

The Highway Hikers are preparing for their 42nd Annual Christmas Toy Run tomorrow in Clark County. They will begin at the Veterans of Foreign Wars post on Lake Road in Bethel Twp. at 1 p.m. tomorrow.

The caravan of motorcycles will travel along Gerlaugh Road and east on Lower Valley Pike. The motorcycles will proceed past George Rogers Clark Park onto State Route 4 past the Masonic Home. They will continue on Main Street through Springfield to South Bird Road. The run will turn on South Charleston Pike arriving at the entrance of the Clark County Fairgrounds, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.

Those driving in the area are asked to seek an alternate route, as traffic could be blocked. According to a Facebook event for the toy run, over 800 people plan to attend and over 1,200 people are interested.

Ryan Ray, development director at the Springfield Salvation Army, described the toy run as “the area’s largest display of love.”

“There’s really nothing like it,” Ray said. “When you see these bikers with teddy bears and toys hanging off their handlebars it is a really cool thing to see.”
