The Board of Education of the Graham Local School District has named a new board member to fill the unexpired term of former board member Alan Mitchell.

Robert (Bob) Welker was sworn-in at the regular board meeting on Monday, Dec. 21, according to a release from Superintendent Brad Silvus.

Welker, who has been a district resident for over 16 years, was a professor at Wittenberg University for over 20 years, serving in many leadership positions including Department Chair and Director of Springfield Wittenberg Institute.

“Mr. Welker’s commitment to service, his knowledge of the educational system and his desire to make a difference in the lives of our students make him an outstanding candidate to sit on the board. His knowledge and passion for learning will bring another diverse, respected and valued perspective to our team,” said Board President Leslie Maurice.

Mitchell, who had served on the board since January, resigned on Nov. 23 due to ongoing health concerns.

Welker will serve the unexpired term until Dec. 31, 2023.

“The Board of Education would like to thank the six community members that showed interest in this important position for Graham Local. The Graham community is filled with talented, dedicated individuals with a commitment to our schools,” the release stated.
