Firefighters battled a barn fire on Ridge Road in Springfield Twp. on Jan. 30, 2014.

Two goats were killed in a fire that destroyed a barn and damaged some equipment inside the structure this morning.

Firefighters were called to the property in the 3200 block of Ridge Road around 12:30 a.m. after the property owners called 911 to report the fire.

Several horses and a cow were able to be saved from the burning barn, which was used to house livestock and farm equipment, the Springfield Twp. Fire Chief said.

When fire crews arrived at the building it was engulfed in fire, initial reports indicated.

The chief said there were no human injuries during the fire and the fire department, along with the property owners, agreed to allow the fire to burn itself out.

A trailer near the barn housed several expensive saddles, but family was able to recover those items safely.

Some farm equipment including an ATV and lawnmower was damaged, if not destroyed, by the flames, the fire chief said.

Firefighters are not clear on what caused the fire and an investigation is ongoing.

Investigators have not determined how much damage was caused by the fire, but the barn burned to the ground.
