A local group is hoping a “Shark Tank” type competition will help develop more entrepreneurs in Springfield.

Five local entrepreneurs will deliver their final pitch tonight for a chance to win about $80,000 worth of cash and services towards their business ideas for the second year of the Springfield Hustles competition.

The “Shark Tank” style competition was first rolled out in the area in 2019 with the idea of boosting local entrepreneurs who either already had a business or were looking to start one.

The competition returned this year, but has taken a more virtual approach. Local entrepreneurs pitched their business ideas through a three-minute video during the first round instead of having to first formulate a business plan.

Once selected, they worked with the Small Business Development Center to further flesh out business plans.

Those who were chosen to be finalist will be making their final pitch at 8 p.m., during a live event at Medway Church, 2550 S. Dayton-Lakeview Road, New Carlisle.

Due to coronavirus restrictions, the event will have limited attendance and will be streamed live on the Springfield Hustles' Facebook page.

This year’s finalist are Brian True, who is pitching the business Table Talks; Rebekah Hart and Audrey Vanzant, pitching Floral and Flourish; Craig Williams and Earl Taylor, pitching Main Squeeze Juice Bar; Gabi Odebode, pitching Afromeals; and Stone Nickerson, pitching Everyday Angler.
