Final work to complete items on $1.8M Urbana roundabout scheduled to start Monday

Construction work to complete remaining items on the Urbana Monument Square roundabout project is scheduled to start next week, according to the city’s engineer.

The bulk of the $1.8 million project wrapped up late last year after nearly six months of construction.

RB Jergens Contractors, Inc. and its subcontractors will continue construction work on Monday toward the completion of the remaining work items.

“Remaining work items on the project are as follows: repairs to the asphalt on Scioto Street and North Main Street and within the center circle of Monument Square; permanent striping of roadway and parking area markings; manhole adjustment; and water valve adjustment," said City Engineer Tyler Bumbalough.

Bumbalough said the remedial paving work will be completed by a different subcontractor.

The contractor will post no parking signs within the planned work areas, and daytime road closures will be required as there will be parking restrictions.

In July, the contractor was able to complete repairs to the asphalt within the project area, permanent striping of crosswalk markings, and other manhole and water valve adjustments.

Funding for the project comes from an Ohio Department of Transportation Safety Grant, an ODOT Small Cities Grant, an ODOT Urban Resurfacing Grant and funds from the Ohio Public Works Commission for water main replacements.
