Springfield police are investigating after they found a vehicle with several bullet holes and an unharmed woman inside.

Police were dispatched to the area of Selma Road and East St. on Sept. 14 at around 5 a.m. in reference to a caller who said shots were heard, according to a report. Upon arrival, officers checked the area and found a vehicle parked in front of a home on Summer Street that was riddled with bullets.

“This vehicle appeared to have been struck approximately six times,” the report says.

Officers were able to make contact with a woman who was inside the vehicle. She told them she was visiting a friend at the home and was parked in an empty lot when she heard six to seven “pops” and saw “the flashes”, the report says.

“(The victim) stated that she did not see who shot at her but did say that she thought there were two different ‘pop sounds’,” the report says. The report indicates the woman thought she was being shot at by two guns. The woman also told police she thought the suspects were on foot because she didn’t see a car or headlights.

“(The woman) stated that she ducked down in her driver’s seat when she heard the shots,” the report says. “She stated that she then drove her vehicle from the empty lot in front of (the home) and that is when officers arrived.”

Officers at the scene were able to find six silver .380 ACP spent shell casings in the alley to the rear of the home, according to the report.

The bullets caused the car to leak gasoline, according to the report, and had to be towed away.

At this time, no one is facing charges in connection to the shooting. Anyone with information is encouraged to call police at 937-324-7680.
