Springfield police began their investigation on Tuesday at around 3 p.m. when they were dispatched to the area of Speedway on Burnett Road and met the victim around the corner, according to the police report.

“(The victim) stated he was turning westbound onto Lexington Avenue from the north entrance on his dirtbike,” the report says. “(The victim) stated the unknown male suspect then brandished a chrome handgun and pointed it at him. (He) stated the male then fired one or two gunshots at him and fled eastbound on Lexington Avenue.”

The victim said he and the unknown male had fought in the past, but he did not know his name, according to police.

Police were able to find a fragmented bullet near the scene and found out that street sweepers had been through the area just before the shooting so the bullet was likely from the reported incident, the report says.
