Officers who shot armed Cincinnati man will face no criminal charges

The Cincinnati police officers who shot and wounded a man at a park Thursday will not face criminal charges, Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters announced Saturday.

The Cincinnati Police Department has released the footage of the incident captured by the officers’ body cameras.

"After a thorough review of the incident, it is absolutely clear that the officers acted appropriately and followed their training,” Deters said in a prepared release.

Devin Johnson, 23, was armed with a knife and “acting erratically” when two officers responded to Bramble Park in Madisonville, Police Chief Eliot Isaac told our news partners at WCPO-TV in Cincinnati.

Johnson approached the officers holding an 11-inch butcher knife. Both officers told Johnson to drop the knife multiple times.

When Johnson continued walking towards the officers, one of the officers shot him three times.

Johnson remains in critical but stable condition at University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
