Walter Baker Jr., 34, was arrested at a home in the 100 block of North Ardmore Avenue, according to Miami Valley Jails booking site.

He was wanted for the shooting in Clark County and for a rape in Franklin County, according to the U.S. Marshals.

Clark County Prosecutor Dan Driscoll said that Baker was wanted in connection to the killing of Ernest Edwards at the Nite Owl Bar in 2013.

He said the shooting took place after a disruption at the bar.

“Two guys from Dayton got in a fight with a number of folks inside the bar,” Driscoll said. “They waited outside, and while everyone was coming out they started shooting into the crowd there.”

Driscoll said multiple people were shot during the incident.

Ernest died from his injuries.

One of the shooters, Julian Johnson, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the case and was sentenced to serve almost five years in prison.

Driscoll said capturing Baker was important because his office wants to bring justice for the Edwards’ family.

“We certainly hope that we are able to provide him some kind of closure,” he said. “The longer the case sits around, it’s harder to put stuff together but we are going to do our best to prosecute this case to fullest.”

During Baker’s nearly seven years on the run, he became the U.S. Marshal’s Southern Ohio Fugitive Apprehension Strike Team’s most wanted fugitive, according to the U.S. Marshal’s office.

SOFAST officers found Baker at a Dayton residence early Thursday morning and took him into custody with the help of Dayton SWAT.
