Man pleads not guilty to robbing Springfield Subway with fake gun

A 40-year-old Springfield man was arraigned by video Monday morning in Clark County Municipal Court on a robbery charge.

Allan Massie pleaded not guilty to robbery with a repeat violent offender specification, court records show. He was given a bond of $15,000, or 10%.

Officers responded around 12 p.m. on Friday to Subway at 2111 Park Road in reference to an armed robbery that had just occurred, according to a Springfield police report.

When police arrived, an employee said that a man “with a blue hoodie, mask and a gun had entered the store, pointed the handgun at her and demanded money,” the report says.

According to a store surveillance video, a man enters the door, pulls out a handgun and points it at where the employee and cash registers are, the report says. The suspect then goes to the counter, points the gun at the employee while waiting for the money, gets an unknown amount of cash then flees out of the front doors.

“(The employee) stated that as the suspect walked in and toward her, he stated, “Give me your money, open the register and give me everything you got now,” the report says. “The (employee) further stated that as the suspect left, he told her, “Don’t call the police, if you do I’ll turn around and shoot you.”

While reviewing the surveillance video, another officer and Clark County deputy sergeant found a possible suspect on Broadway Street.

The suspect, identified as Massie, was brought back to Subway and identified by the employee, the report says.

Officers then asked Massie where he left the gun, which he said was a toy and that he would take them to where it was on West North Street, the report says. Officers located a “revolver looking pellet gun” and a blue hooded jacket on the side of a barn in the 1800 block.

Massie was arrested and charged with robbery. He is currently being held in the Clark County Jail.
