According to police officials, officers responded to Dot’s Market to arrest Michael J. Rhea, 26, on an outstanding warrant. While doing so they found a device that officials  said looked like a pipe bomb, but it was unknown if it was functional.

In the post, Kettering police said the bomb squad detonated the device around midnight at the Leaf Farm on Spaulding Road, and there were no injuries.

The post added that the investigation is ongoing, and thanked the Kettering Fire Department and Dayton Bomb Squad for their response to this call.

Officials said Rhea was arrested on suspicion of possessing drug paraphernalia, inducing panic, carrying a concealed weapon and possessing dangerous ordinance, in addition to the original warrant.

However, Rhea’s jail booking formation lists charges including one out-of-county charge, carrying a concealed weapon, unlawful possession of dangerous ordinance, and two probation violations.

Rhea is currently booked in the Montgomery County Jail.
