Clark County Sheriff’s Office asks for help finding man who escaped custody wearing handcuffs

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office is asking for help tracking down a man who escaped from a deputy’s custody, still wearing handcuffs.

Deputies pulled over a vehicle just before 2 p.m. Thursday on South Dayton-Lakeview Road in Bethel Twp. for “various” traffic violations. The vehicle was driven by Nicholas Hyslop, 30, of New Carlisle, according to a release from the sheriff’s office.

Hyslop was arrested for driving while under the influence, and while searching him deputies found suspected marijuana, suspected methamphetamine, and several credit cards that did not belong to him, deputies said. He was handcuffed and put in the back of a patrol car while the deputies went to recover a loaded handgun from Hyslop’s car.

Meanwhile, the sheriff’s office said, Hyslop was able to get his hands, still cuffed, in front of him and escape the patrol car.

Hyslop was last running, still handcuffed. Deputies attempted to chase him, but lost sight of him. A subsequent search with the help of the Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers and Aviation Division, as well as a Fairborn Police Department K9 unit didn’t find him either.

Warrants were issued for Hyslop’s arrest for charges including escaping from police custody, obstructing official business, improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon, having a weapon while under disability, OVI, two counts of illegal use of a supplemental nutrition benefits card and driving while under suspension.

Anyone with information on Hyslop’s whereabouts is urged to call the Clark County Sheriff’s Office at 937-328-2560.
