The Clark County Board of Elections will be moving its location for early in-person voting for the upcoming general election.

The the move is due to an expected uptick in early in-person voter turnout as well as safety concerns regarding the coronavirus pandemic, according to a Thursday news release.

Early in-person voting has traditionally taken place at the county board of elections office on East Main Street. However, it will now be held at the Turner Studio Theater at the Clark State Performing Arts Center at 300 South Fountain Ave.

This year’s general election will be held on Nov. 3., and absentee voting by mail as well as early in-person voting are both scheduled to begin on Oct. 6.

Higher than usual in-person turnout is expected for early voting as it will be a presidential election and the election is taking place during a global pandemic.

The decision to move the location for in-person early voting was made due to concerns of not having enough room or a lack of access points to allow for proper social distancing at the original location.

Officials with the BOE said that they started looking for a suitable alternative in June and identified the theater as a possible location in July.

After completing an assessment to determine if that location would meet the requirements of the American’s With Disabilities Act for polling locations, the BOE entered into a partnership with the Clark State Performing Arts Center.

The new location will allow for a one-way flow of foot traffic from entrance to exit and will allow for eight voting check-in stations.
