House impeaches Trump for historic 2nd time

The U.S. House voted to impeach President Donald Trump for a second time.

A majority of congress members voted to impeach Trump on an article of impeachment for incitement of insurrection, exactly one week after a violent siege of the U.S. Capitol.

Multiple lawmakers called for Trump’s removal or impeachment in the days after a group of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol, which led to five deaths and forced members of congress to take cover.

The National Guard is on hand at the Capitol Wednesday to provide security. The Associated Press reported that up to 15,000 Guard members are expected to support local law enforcement in DC in the days leading up to President-elect Joe Biden’s Jan. 20 inauguration.

Gov. Mike DeWine authorized up to 580 Ohio National Guard soldiers and airmen for deployment in Ohio and 200 more to the nation’s capital.

Since the riot at the Capitol last Wednesday, the FBI has warned of possible armed protests at all 50 state capitals and in DC.
