Paint Creek Lake: Bass fishing has been very good around points, 4-6 feet deep. Use green/pumpkinseed worms or shad-like crankbaits. Crappies have been hitting around brush off of channel banks. Most are small. For saugeyes, troll a chartreuse twister between the beach and the island. Catfish are hitting cut shad, shrimp and nightcrawlers at depths of 4-6 feet.
Rocky Fork Lake: Anglers are working the edges of the weed beds about 7-9 feet deep to catch bass. Carolina rigs and plastics have worked best. A few saugeyes are still being caught by trolling worm harnesses around the island. Use shiny spinners or spoons to catch white bass. Watch for jumps. Fish the flats with nightcrawlers or cut shad for catfish. Bluegills are still plentiful in shallow water.
C.J. Brown Reservoir: Walleye fishing has been good. Anglers are trolling with crawler harnesses over the humps and old roadbed. Crappies have moved to deep water and are hard to find. Bluegills are hitting waxworms and redworms around the docks and stickups at the marina. Catfish are biting on leeches, nightrcrawlers and cut shad all over the lake.
Indian Lake: The lake has been muddy with most of the action for catfish. Moundwood has been a good spot. Nightcrawlers, shrimp and cut shad have been the best baits. White bass have been caught in the Oldfield Channel on minnows, Mepps and Roostertails. The old game reserve has been choked off with weeds.
Acton Lake: Saugeyes have been biting all over by casting weight-forward spinners tipped with nightcrawlers, Vib-E’s and shad-like crankbaits. Crappies have moved to deep water. Bluegills are hitting waxworms in shallow water.
Lake Erie: The best fishing in the western basin has been northwest of West Sister Island, east of Middle Sister along the Canadian border and 5 miles east-northeast of Kelleys Island. The best perch reports have come from between Marblehead and Kelleys and around Green Island. For Lake Erie information, visit wildohio.com or call (888) HOOK-FISH.
