“Journey to Peace” will span music from the Renaissance to today through a cappella singing and solo pieces featuring choral melodies courtesy of the Shawnee High School Symphonic Choir.
The hourlong show will be 3 p.m. Sunday at High Street United Methodist Church, 230 E. High St., Springfield, as part of the monthly Sanctuary Series.
The choir has 78 performers, under the direction of Lydia Smith-Lockwood, director of choral and orchestral music at Shawnee.
Also joining the choir will be a trio of college performers. Wright State University senior music education major Megan Christman will be featured soloist with the choir on “I Know I’ve Been Changed.” Lee University freshman music business major Hayden Jackson will accompany the choir on “Praise His Holy Name.”
Rounding out the guest performers is Alan Lawson, a senior violin performance major at The Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, performing an excerpt of Bach’s “Ciaconna from Partita No. 2 in d minor.”
There is no admission fee to attend, but offerings to help support the series will be accepted.
A reception in the church commons will follow the performance. The Sanctuary Series features concerts and performances monthly through May.
