SPRINGFIELD — It’s no shock to read that, at home near Akron, Ernie Haase collects Elvis memorabilia.
Elvis loved Southern gospel even more than he did fraudulent prescriptions — and Haase is a direct link to one of that genre’s biggest acts.
A member of the Cathedrals in the ’90s, Haase now has his own group, Ernie Haase and Signature Sound.
This is music fit for the King — as in the King of Kings.
But Elvis would no doubt dig it, too.
Haase and Signature Sound will bring that signature 1950s vocal blend to Kuss Auditorium on Feb. 4 for a concert to benefit the local Salvation Army.
In recent years, the Bill Gaither-approved quartet has been nominated for a Grammy (for the 2008 album “Dream On”) and won the Dove for Southern gospel album of the year (for 2007’s “Get Away, Jordan”).
This past fall, the group’s DVD, “A Tribute to the Cathedral Quartet,” made it to No. 1 of the Billboard video chart.
