Germany’s Auryn Quartet will usher in four ensembles from Europe to play the series, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 9 at First Presbyterian Church.
“We’re thrilled to have the Auryn return to Yellow Springs,” said Charles Taylor, the new Chamber Music Yellow Springs president. “They are now one of the most highly regarded string quartets in Europe and indeed throughout the world. This is the peak of string quartet playing to be heard today.”
Auryn Quartet still maintains all four of its original members after three decades. They present an unusual program that features quartets from Haydn and Mozart and perform with historic Italian instruments.
A pre-concert lecture will begin the evening at 6:45 p.m. This show will not feature a post-concert dinner with the performers due to a scheduling conflict.
“The entire season features a wonderful diversity of the best chamber music Europe has to offer,” Taylor said. “It begins with a string quartet as good as one will hear anywhere and ends with a young rising star string quartet. In between are a well-established piano trio and an inventive choral music group.”
Following Auryn Quartet to the series will be the David Piano Trio on Oct. 23, another returnee to the series, which will perform the Tchaikovsky Trio.
Following a break, the series will return in 2017 with the third concert of the season on Jan. 29 with Calmus Ensemble, a choral group, also from Germany, that is new to CMYS and features an unusual combination for German ensembles of male and female voices.
The concert series concludes March 12 with Meccore String Quartet, a group from Poland also debuting here, followed by the annual Competition for Emerging Professional Ensembles on April 23.
Season tickets for all five concerts cost $100 for adults and $25 for full-time students, while individual concert tickets cost $25 adults and $7 full-time students and are available at the door or online. Post-concert dinners are available, except on Oct. 9, and cost $20 and reservations must be made at least four days prior to the concert.
