At 95, Betty White has finally been invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

She's the oldest person of the more than 700 Academy invitees this year, while Elle Fanning, at 19, is the youngest, according to the Huffington Post.

It's surprising that in White's seven-decades long career in film and television she's only now getting an invite to join the prestigious organization, whose members decide who gets an Oscar at the annual Academy Awards show.

White, probably best known for her turn as Rose Nylund on the 1980's TV series "The Golden Girls" and as Sue Ann Nivens on the 1970's sitcom "Mary Tyler Moore," has numerous awards, including Emmys, a Grammy and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, yet she's never been nominated for an Academy Award or invited to join AMPAS until now.
