After a year’s absence, Celebration of the Arts, hosted by the Champaign County Arts Council, will return with food, live entertainment and more.
The event will be at 5 p.m. Thursday, April 28, at the Urbana Country Club.
What began as an annual meeting has evolved into a way of interacting with the public, said Heather Brackney, Arts Council executive director.
“We’re going to reinvigorate the event and hopefully give it a fresh start,” Brackney said. “It’s important to recognize the involvement of the community and to recognize the talent that may go unrecognized, so we like to think of this as more of a community event.”
Celebration of the Arts is also making a return to the Country Club after spending recent years at the Arts Council building.
The evening will begin with a social hour at 5 p.m., then dinner at 6.
A musical program will follow featuring youth talent including the Champaign County Youth Choir and the Melody Maker’s Hand Chime Choir.
“We wanted to bring a youth emphasis in as art education is an important part of what we do,” said Brackney.
The 2016 recipient of the Eva and Charles B. English Scholarship for the Fine Arts will also be announced during the event. The $500 award goes to a Champaign County High School senior to study fine arts in college.
A silent auction has been added with highlights including an original painting by Linnae Wilson, a Champaign County gift basket that includes rounds at three local golf courses, and tickets and a parking pass to a Cincinnati Reds game.
Tickets cost $30 for nonmembers and $25 for members. The reservation deadline is Friday, April 15.
Proceeds raised will go to various Champaign Arts Council programs.
