DCDC to take the stage in both New York, Akron this weekend

Members of the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company have made some impressive leaps over the years. Straddling two cities at once is a new one.

DCDC is performing in both New York and Akron this weekend.

Split squads of dancers from the company took the stage in two places at once last night, Aug. 7, and will almost repeat that today, Aug. 8. One show is at 4 p.m. in New York’s Central Park. The other is at 8:45 p.m. in Akron’s Firestone Park.

Artistic director Debbie Blunden-Diggs said the Akron date already was set when the New York opportunity presented itself. “We have never tried anything like this — two venues at once — but it’s a great way to increase exposure for the company.”

DCDC also is scheduled to perform Aug. 22 in Chicago. Its home opener will be Oct. 3 at Centerville High School.
