The Springfield Museum of Art will launch its fall arts classes Wednesday, Sept. 24, with programs for adults and children from preschoolers to teens.

Classes are eight weeks and run through Nov. 16. They are in partnership with Clark State Community College’s Office of Continuing Education and presented at the museum, located at 107 Cliff Park Road.

Several new offerings are included. Museum Executive Director Ann Fortescue said some classes grew out of feedback from curriculum developers.

The Art Achievers program is aimed at kids ages 8-13 with a strong interest in art, who will be introduced to several new concepts. A toddler class for ages 2-3, accompanied by an adult, will introduce structured art activities.

An adult drawing class introducing basic concepts was also added after requests.

Fortescue said the museum’s Art Educator, Deb Housh, is working with the course instructors to make use of the museum’s exhibitions and collections.

“That’s the beauty of having classes here, where students can study and be inspired by the art we have,” said Fortescue.
