The 2010 edition of the show featured 54 cars in nine classes, under the guidance on new show chairman Gary Cochran. Cochran got the job in a round-about way.
“My wife was the grand marshal last year, and they asked us to stay on the committee, and I figured I just help setting stuff up. Then they asked me to chair the car show and, really, I don’t know much about cars, but I’m really learning quickly,” Cochran said.
“I’ve never met nicer people than car people,” Cochran added. “I admit to them I don’t know much, but they answer my questions, they offer advice and help and they’re making this event work. And Ken Brightman has been a great mentor, helping me with the selection and making contacts.”
The nine classes of cars for this year’s event were T-Birds, American Iron 1940-50, American Iron 1960-70, British Sports Cars, Street Rods, Sports Cars, Porsches, Corvettes and Mustangs. The cars were all parked along Lincoln Park Boulevard, and were roped off, allowing for an easy flow of spectators.
The participants were invited to judge all of the classes except the one they were in, and First Place awards were presented, which also included The Queens Award, Mayors Award, Skip Lowe Award and Grand Marshal Award.
Centerville’s Steve Markman won the Mayor’s Award for his red MG TD, while Dan Schmidt won the Queen’s Award with his street rod, Dick Dearing’s Jaguar XKE won the Skip Lowe Award and Richard Wood captured the Grand Marshal’s prize.
“I’m really happy with the way the day turned out,” Cochran said. “The participants seemed real happy, and the crowd of spectators is huge.”
“For next year, we’re going to make sure we have a completely fresh bunch of cars, in totally new classes. We want the people who come to this to see unique cars, cars they don’t see every day on the street.”
