Springfield in Top 5 in U.S. for jobs

In the next several years, Springfield stands to gain more than 1,000 jobs, many from larger businesses making their home here in town or smaller retail start-ups. It’s this growth that has made Springfield the fifth-best city of its size for job growth in the country, according to Business Facilities Magazine.

Here's a look at some of the larger companies hiring locally and what they’re looking for.

Rittal

Number of positions: 118 jobs during three years.

Why they’re hiring: Rittal is in the midst of a $6.7 million expansion. Urbana City Council has offered tax exemptions and incremental income tax breaks.

Types of jobs: Manufacturing — Machine operators, welders, assemblers, material handlers. Professional — Application engineers, manufacturing engineers, sales, support

Why they’re hiring: Clark County Commission granted a 10-year, 100 percent tax abatement for company’s expansion.

Types of jobs: Production, office administration, engineering.

Requirements: Not available.

Why they’re hiring: A six-year Ohio tax credit worth $800,000 in exchange for $1.3 million in new annual payroll and up to 500 jobs.

Types of jobs: Quality inspectors, receiving clerk, monogram machine maintenance.

Requirements: High school diploma or GED equivalent, appropriate experience, ability to lift 30 to 75 pounds.

Types of jobs: Pickers and packers, as well as forklift operators.

Requirements: High school diploma or GED equivalent, with prior pick/pack or forklift experience.
