Woods out as Graham’s head football coach

A.J. Woods apparently has resigned as the Graham High School head football coach.

The open Falcons position was posted online. Neither Woods nor Graham athletic director Jay Lewis were available to confirm the departure.

Woods’ leaving the Graham position is at least the third head football coaching change in the Central Buckeye Conference for this coming season.

NEW GRAHAM COACH: A.J. Woods promoted to Falcons head football coach

Previously, longtime Bellefontaine assistant Carleton Cotner was named to succeed Jon Daniels at Urbana. Also John Wooten was promoted to succeed Kevin Ferguson at Greenon, which jumps from the CBC to the Ohio Heritage Conference this fall. Also in the OHC, Greg Bonifay resigned as Southeastern’s head coach to succeed Trace Smitherman at Stebbins. Smitherman landed the Xenia head coach position after Bob DeLong resigned after eight seasons.

Woods was Graham’s head coach the last two seasons, going 3-7 in 2015 and 2-8 last season. A Southeastern grad, he was promoted to succeed John Tullis as the Falcons’ head coach.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas’ 2018 football schedule was released Tuesday afternoon, and it’s a sight for sore eyes as far as the Razorbacks are concerned. Arkansas opens the season with an FCS opponent, doesn’t play a nonconference game against a Power 5 team, gets five straight home games...
Comparing Kelly Bryant and Deshaun Watson through 3 games

After Clemson captured the 2016 national championship, it’d be natural to assume the Tigers would experience at least some sort of drop-off this year. Deshaun Watson, Mike Williams, Wayne Gallman and Jordan Leggett, among others, are gone on offense. The defense had to replace players such as Ben Boulware, Jadar...
Florida State linebacker Matthew Thomas eager to get back on field and prove himself

When the Florida State football team takes the field Saturday against N.C. State, it won’t have played in 20 days. In his press conference Monday, Seminoles coach Jimbo Fisher said his players are eager to finally compete against someone besides their own teammates. Perhaps the most eager Seminole is linebacker Matthew...

Reds playing for something — fourth place

The Reds opened the last two weeks of their season on Tuesday with the opener of a three-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals, the first of four teams with postseason plans on the line that Cincinnati will meet down the stretch. Two of those teams, St. Louis and Milwaukee, were desperately trying to keep alive their fading hopes. The other two...
