H.S. Results for 4/8: Vandalia blanks Northmont at WSU

Unbeaten Vandalia shutout Northmont 6-0 in a Saturday baseball game played at Wright State.

Matt Grossman led the way, going 2-for-3 and driving in five runs. Damon Dues was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Gavin Kohler earned the win on the mound.

Dylan Guth had a 3-for-3 day in a losing effort for Northmont.

Vandalia improved to 10-0, 3-0 in conference play. Northmont fell to 5-2.

Baseball

Springfield 5, Tecumseh 0: Avery Swigart doubled and tripled and A.J. Schnitzler threw a complete game shutout with 11 strikeouts to lead Springfield in game one of a doubleheader. Tecumseh salvaged a split with a 5-0 win in game two.

Miamisburg 14, Greenville 1: ‘Burg exploded for 11 runs in the third inning to take a commanding lead in the first game of a DH. Chris Meyers, Jon Yerkins, Justin Cooper and Ethan Schultz all had multiple hits. Miamisburg won game two 11-7, with Brandon Boxer driving in three runs.

Lebanon 9, Middletown 3: Jackson Palcic picked up the win and Jimmy Myers went 2-for-3 to lead Lebanon to its first win of the season.

La Salle 7, Springboro 6: ‘Boro looked poised to take the win after putting four runs up in the top of the seventh, but La Salle answered with four in the bottom of the frame to take back the lead. Luke Walker and Ethan Brickner each had two hits and a RBI for Springboro.

Celina 8, Sidney 1: Corbin Smith plated Kyle Noble for Sidney’s lone run.

Fairfield 10, Centerville 1: Andrew Sams racked up four hits including a double and a triple and Trinidad Selvie doubled and drove in four runs for Fairfield. Alex Firsdon tallied three hits with a double, driving in the lone run for Centerville. Fairfield also completed a suspended game against Middletown, getting a 12-2 win. Evan Trentman finished 4-for-4 with a double and three RBI in that game.

Fenwick 7, Lakota East 1: Cross Youtsler brought in the go-ahead run in the sixth inning in his first at-bat of the season and Alec Hemmelgarn was solid on the mound to earn the win for Fenwick.

Chaminade Julienne 6, Wayne 4: Ben Thomas recorded his first win and Garrett Wissman picked up his third save as CJ pulled ahead late to beat Wayne.

Ross 5, Hamilton 3: Zach Arno went 3-for-4, Blake Niefield drove in a pair of runs and Dylan Houlihan came in relief and pitched out of a bases-loaded jam to help Ross emerge victorious. Zach Bell went 2-for-3 with a double for Hamilton.

Preble Shawnee 18, National Trail 11: Preble Shawnee pounded out 13 runs in the sixth inning to rally for a Saturday sweep of Trail. Preble took game one 15-10.

Kenton Ridge 4, Carlisle 0: Drew Wichael tossed a two-hitter with six strikeouts to pick up his first win of the season in game one of a DH. Game two saw Kenton Ridge come away with a 10-1 win, with Luke Holt hitting two home runs and Kaleb Meeks also hitting a homer.

Eaton 10, Twin Valley South 0: Donnie Nicodemus doubled twice and Austin Day struck out five and allowed just two hits in the shutout for Eaton in game one of a DH. Eaton won game two 13-5, with Alex Rowe notching the win on the mound.

Arcanum 6, Milton Union 5: Caleb Shilt notched the win and Ben Sease went 2-for-4 to lead Arcanum in game one of a DH. Milton Union took game two by a score of 4-2.

Tri-County North 1, Xenia 0: Casey Whipp brought in Bailey Lairson for the winning run in the top of the ninth inning. Chandler Sproles scattered six hits and struck out seven in a complete-game win.

Tri-Village 5, Yellow Springs 3: Camren Munchel’s two-out double in the bottom of the sixth gave Tri-Village the advantage in the first game of a DH. TV won game two 15-3, with Christian Ricker and Jared Buckley and Munchel each notching a double and three hits.

Riverside 7, Bellefontaine 3: Caleb Stevens recorded three hits with four runs scored out of the leadoff spot and Trey Lane drove in three to carry Riverside. Clay Wisner tallied two doubles for Bellefontaine.

Northeastern 5, Graham 1: Aaron Phillips and Alex Lockwood each had a double with two RBI for Northeastern in game one of a DH. Miami Trace edged Northeastern 6-4 in game two.

New Bremen 13, Ansonia 0: Luke Vonderhaar was 3-for-3 with five RBI and Grant Selby went 2-for-3 with three RBI and three runs scored for New Bremen in the first game of a DH. New Bremen took game two 10-0, with Vonderhaar tallying three more hits to lead the way.

Softball

Sidney 8, Bellefontaine 1: Grace Shell struck out 11 to lead Sidney in the first game of a DH sweep. Maddie White picked up her first win on the mound in Sidney’s 9-3 victory in game two.

Fairborn 16, Wayne 1: Taylor Rice, Bryanna McLean and Destiny Ferrigno all went yard for Fairborn in the game one win. Wayne salvaged a split in game two, winning 10-3.

Badin 2, Carlisle 0: Nicole Rawlings struck out six, improving to 9-0 for unbeaten Badin. Sam Sander added a double and a RBI and Rawlings also doubled. Ashley Brown had a solid effort for Carlisle, striking out ten.

Ross 10, Taylor 5: Kenzie Meyer struck out seven and Ally Ivey went 4-for-5 with a double and two runs scored for Ross in game one of a DH. Meyer also notched the win in game two’s 9-4 victory, with Maddy Foster getting a pair of hits, three steals and two runs scored.

Kenton Ridge 3, West Liberty-Salem 0: Carly Turner improved to 6-0, striking out eight in the game one shutout for Ridge. Lexie Trainer added a triple and two RBI. West Liberty-Salem took game two 2-0, with Kelsey Day picking up the win and Kenedie Cox going 2-for-3 to lead the way.

Indian Lake 13, Lima Shawnee 1: Hailey Wallace struck out 11 and Kaylee Shelton drove in four runs to lead Indian Lake in the first game of a DH. Lake took game two 13-3, with Nya Worrell going 4-for-5 with three RBI.

Northwestern 9, Blanchester 0: Jenna Robbins tossed her second no-hitter of the season in game one. Game two saw Miranda Gillman throw a one-hit shutout in a 10-0 win for Northwestern.

Ansonia 8, Marion Local 7: Sarah Rhoades brought in the tying run and Kayla Saintignon hit a walkoff single to help Ansonia split a doubleheader with Marion Local. The first game ended with a 19-1 decision in Marion Local’s favor.

Riverside 15, Mississinawa Valley 6: Kristin Davidson had three hits with three RBI and Shelby Giles homered and earned the win on the mound for Riverside in game one. Bailey Johnson went 3-for-4 with two RBI for Mississinawa. Riverside won the second game 18-6, with Marissa Davis going 4-for-4 with two doubles and two home runs.

St. Henry 11, Fort Loramie 7: Brooke Borgerding went 3-for-5 with a triple and three RBI and Kendra Rose chipped in two RBI for St. Henry.

Boys Tennis

Miami Valley 5, Fenwick 0: Colton Moreheart edged Dylan Sagan in three sets, and Michael Perevozchikov and Makul Sharma picked up the other singles wins for Miami Valley in this OTCA Tournament match. It marked the first loss of the season for Fenwick.

Boys Volleyball

Beavercreek 3, St. Edwards 0: Noah Buell tallied 18 assists, Michael Abbitt added 11 kills and Alan Fullenkamp had three aces to lead the way for Beavercreek. Hoban and St. Ignatius both got the better of ‘Creek in later matches, winning 3-1.

Edgewood 2, West Clermont 0: David Testas and Logan Flynn had five kills apiece for Edgewood. Oak Hills knocked off Edgewood 2-0 in a second game.

Girls Lacrosse

Miamisburg 15, Miami Valley 4: Bella Baker and Sydney DeWeese had four goals apiece to lead ‘Burg to its first win of the season Friday.
