H.S. Results for 5/11: McConnell sets school record in ‘Boro sectional

Justin McConnell broke a school record in Springboro’s 10-0 win over Bellefontaine in a Division I sectional baseball game on Thursday.

McConnell swiped three bases in the game, upping his season total to 28, a school record. He also went 3-for-3 with four runs scored.

Ethan Brickner added three hits with two RBI, Bryce Haberthier doubled and drove in three and Drew Saunier tossed a two-hit shutout for ‘Boro.

Sam Martz and Aaron Malarkey had the lone hits for Bellefontaine.

Springboro advances to a sectional final vs. Troy on Thursday at Beavercreek.

Baseball

Northmont 10, Fairmont 9: Dylan Guth scored Caden Cronbach on a walk-off sac-fly to give Northmont the edge in this D-I sectional. Colton Hicks drove in three runs in a losing effort for Fairmont.

Lebanon 2, Lakota East 1: A.J. Fritz improved to 4-0 on the mound for Lebanon, which scored in the bottom of the ninth for a walkoff win in this D-I sectional.

Waynesville 9, Bellbrook 6: Kyle Leis and Tommy Isaacs had back-to-back run-scoring doubles in the bottom of the sixth to spur a Waynesville rally. Waynesville scored seven runs in that inning to win the D-II sectional game.

Kenton Ridge 2, Indian Lake 1: Noah Schleintz singled in Cameron Kettler for the winning run for Kenton Ridge in this D-II sectional. KR scored both runs in the bottom of the seventh, answering an RBI double from Parker Groathouse in the top of the frame.

Fort Loramie 4, Russia 0: Jared Middendorf struck out seven in a solid performance to help Fort Loramie earn a share of the Shelby County League title.

Anna 17, Fairlawn 1: 13 players had hits for Anna, which secured a share of the Shelby County League title.

Softball

Piqua 16, Fairborn 7: Piqua took advantage of Fairborn miscues to run away with the win in a regular season game. Ashlyn baker and Taylor Rice each had a home run for Fairborn.

Chaminade Julienne 6, Bellbrook 5: Caroline Nevius went 2-for-4 with a double, Natalie Northern was 2-for-3 with a double and Carly Fugett was 3-for-4 and notched the win on the mound for CJ in this D-II sectional.

Kenton Ridge 5, Bellefontaine 0: Carly Turner struck out 16 in a shutout effort and went 3-for-3 with two doubles and three RBI in leading Kenton Ridge in this D-II sectional.

Covington 17, Fort Loramie 6: Kenzie Long went 3-for-3 with a homer and six RBI to carry Covington in this D-IV sectional. Morgan Holscher had a two-run home run and drove in another two with a double in a losing effort for FL.

Newton 4, Lehman Catholic 1: Kacie Tackett hit a homer and drove in three and Kristen Rappold struck out seven to earn the win for Newton in a D-IV sectional.

Riverside 18, Fairlawn 0: Courtnie Smith had three hits and a homer and Shelby Giles allowed only one hit and struck out eight for Riverside in the D-IV sectional win.

Volleyball

Fairmont 3, Mason 0: Fairmont swept Mason with scores of 25-21, 25-16 and 25-16.

Middletown 3, Edgewood 0: Jeremiah Beeler reeled off 16 assists and David Testas nine kills for Edgewood in a losing effort.

Track & Field

Greater Catholic League Co-Ed Championships: Carroll won both boys and girls, marking the ninth year in a row for the boys and the second straight for the girls. Carroll’s Sam Janson was named the GCL track athlete of the year and David Saurine was tabbed as the field athlete of the year. Alter’s Peri Bockrath was picked for track athlete of the year honors and Fenwick’s Kathryn Brooks earned field athlete of the year honors.

Ohio Heritage Conference Meet: Fairbanks boys won the meet with 131 points but West Liberty-Salem placed second at 118. Michael Conley, Raiph LeVan and Noah and Konner Smith each had individual event wins for WLS.
