(A player must have been an All-American who played between 50 and 10 years ago and is no longer be an active pro.)
Here is my top 10:
1. Troy Smith
2. Mike Vrabel
3. Will Smith
4. Antoine Winfield
5. Mike Doss
6. Keith Byars
7. Shawn Springs
8. Jim Otis
9. David Boston
10. Cris Carter
(Note: A.J. Hawk and James Laurinaitis will be eligible next year.)
This is based on a mix of accomplishments, longevity and just how flat-out good I believe these players were.
Admittedly, this list is leans toward the past 25 years because I’m most familiar with that era. And although there are still more than a dozen players from the ‘60s and ‘70s eligible, those teams are pretty well represented already.
I also have a high standard when it comes to any hall of fame (even if pro football doesn’t — ZING!), but I want to know who makes your list.
