Landers was on the sideline when the Buckeyes beat Notre Dame last season in the Fiesta Bowl. This time, he’ll be on the field. He and all the players can’t wait. It’s the same for their family members. Asked if his mom was going to the game, Landers said, “Oh yeah, she doesn’t miss nothing, anything. She’ll more than likely be there.”
Here are some other highlights from Thursday’s interviews:
• Center Pat Elflein spoke about winning the Rimington Trophy: “It was an incredible experience going down there with all those amazing football players. Everyone down there was all the people you hear about all year on TV. Just to be in the same place as them, in the same venue, to experience the whole thing with them was pretty cool.”
• Guard Billy Price reacted to winning a first-team All-American honor: “It was something we had been pushing for all offseason. I kind of thought we played pretty well all season. We’re just super happy. I was pretty excited. One of my goals was to be a captain and All-America. I got that squared away this year.”
• Urban Meyer spoke after the players and said nothing has been finalized regarding suspended wide receiver Torrance Gibson, who signed a letter of intent with a community college.
• On new Cincinnati Bearcats coach Luke Fickell, who will remain with the Buckeyes through the playoffs, Meyer said, “One of the greatest things I’ve ever done was keep Luke Fickell.”
• Meyer said Kerry Coombs’ role will be expanded with the departure of Fickell. He hasn’t made any other decisions on the staff.
