NFL free agency: Ohio State/Alter grad Nick Mangold still on market

Nick Mangold, an Alter High grad an All-American center at Ohio State, has been unemployed since the New York Jets released him in late February.

Newsday reports he is still trying to rectify that situation, though the lingering effects of injuries that marred his last season in the Big Apple might be playing a role in his inability to agree to terms with a new team.

"I'm just rehabbing, trying to get right, trying to get ready," Mangold told Newsday on Monday, just before walking onto the golf course at Willie Colon's charity outing for Lupus research.

Mangold, 33, visited with the Baltimore Ravens in April but left without a deal. Asked if he has completely ruled out retirement, the seven-time Pro Bowler said, "We're still trying to see what the options are."

Mangold played only eight games last season after logging 14 or more in each of his first 10 years in the NFL, all with the Jets.

He is a seven-time Pro Bowler and has been named to the All-Pro first team twice.
