Johnson, of course, is a Lakers great who has remained associated with the team off and on since he was drafted by them out of Michigan State in 1979.

Aside from the obvious headline-grabbing hire of Johnson as president of basketball operations, there’s also some potential family drama for the team as team co-owner Jeanie Buss fired not only general manager Mitch Kupchak but also her brother, Jim Buss, who was removed from his role as executive vice president of basketball operations.

The siblings took on a greater role in running the team after their father, Dr. Jerry Buss, passed away in 2013, and the team has pretty much been a disaster ever since.
The current roster has some intriguing talents, including rookie Brandon Ingram and former Ohio State standout D’Angelo Russell, but given the overall dysfunction within the franchise lately, it might truly take some magic to get things turned around quickly.
