Cozart’s cruise: Reds shortstop had high time -- and a hit -- in first All-Star Game

Zack Cozart made the most out of his first trip to the All-Star Game by ripping a single to left field in Marlins Park on the first pitch he saw in the third inning, playing solid defense and enjoying family time before and after the Tuesday night game.

If you weren’t watching the game, but following Cozart on Twitter, it was pretty easy to keep up.

Soon after the knock, which ended an 0-for-23 drought by Reds players in the All-Star Game dating back to a hit by Scott Rolen in the 2010 mid-summer festival, Fox dropped this one:

Reds teammate Joey Votto, who struck out in a pinch-hitting appearance later in the game, tracked down the ball that Cozart bopped into left field and gave it to his friend.

Voted by fans to the the National League's starting shortstop, Cozart made a family vacation out of his trip to Miami, telling reporters, "I've been a Red since I was drafted in '07 and came up in '11. All I know is Reds. So for them to do as much as they did to help me get where I'm at, I want to represent that crowd."

Judging from all the scenes of him smiling, even when fielding an endless stream of questions about the donkey that Joey Votto is buying him as a reward for being voted into his first All-Star Game, Cozart had a great time.
