The Bengals got a look at Smith last year in their preseason game at Jacksonville when he played 17 snaps and recorded a sack of AJ McCarron in addition to dropping running back Bronson Hill for a 2-yard loss in the Jaguars’ 26-21 victory.
Smith’s first career sack also was against the Bengals when he dropped Andy Dalton in the first quarter of a game Cincinnati won 33-23 at Paul Brown Stadium on Nov. 2, 2014.
BENGALS DRAFT POSITION PREVIEWS:
The only other trade between Cincinnati and Jacksonville worked out pretty for the Bengals when they acquired 2007 first-round pick Reggie Nelson in 2010 for cornerback David Jones and a conditional draft pick.
Nelson went on to start 83 games with 23 interceptions and a Pro Bowl berth in six seasons in Cincinnati. Jones played two seasons in Jacksonville with five starts and one interception and was out of the league after the 2012 season.
