Pete Rose was banned by baseball commissioner Angelo Giamatti in 1989 for his alleged ties to gamblers while manager of the Cincinnati Reds. Rose, who admitted his involvement as part of his conditions to apply for reinstatement, has been rejected entry back into baseball four times. In 1991, the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum voted to bar banned players from induction. Since 1944, only one baseball figure has not been reinstated to baseball: Peter Rose.
