Springfield man with prior felony jailed for possessing guns

Springfield police responding to a report of a dog shot, ended up arresting the resident for possessing firearms unlawfully.

Thomas E. Bunch, 46, of North Greenmount Avenue, is now in Clark County Jail on two counts having weapons under disability. He was arrested May 21.

Springfield police were called to Bunch's home on a report of someone with a gun that shot and killed a dog.

Once on scene, officers got too many conflicting reports on the dog's death to make an arrest for cruelty to animals.

But police observed two guns — a shotgun and a handgun — in the kitchen of Bunch's home. He is not allowed to possess firearms due to a prior robbery conviction, so officers arrested him, according to court documents.

Bunch did have a dog bite to his ankle and was treated at the hospital before being taken to jail.

Bunch will be arraigned in court today, May 22. We will update this report.
