ID released of man killed in snowmobile crash


Authorities said a man from the village of Cable was killed Monday night when his Yamaha snowmobile crashed into a tree in Salem Twp.

Howard F. Wilkins, 42, was driving the snowmobile north through a field near the 2400 block of East Kanagy Road when he crashed, according to information from the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Champaign County coroner, and the accident is still under investigation.

West Liberty Fire and EMS also responded to the scene.
