A former porn star once known as Dave Pounder is trying to make a name for himself in local politics.
David Benoit Mech, 38, of Boca Raton, qualified Monday to run against incumbent Karen Brill and John Michael Hartman for a seat on the Palm Beach County School Board.
Mech, who runs the Happy/Fun Math Tutor company, is better known for his former career as adult film actor. A few years ago, Mech stopped performing in X-rated films and started his tutoring business but continued to own part of an adult movie production company.
Last year, when parents learned of Mech’s prior porn career, they complained to the school district. The district took down banners that Mech had at several schools to get clients for his tutoring business.
Mech sued the school district. That lawsuit is still pending.
“A lot of people have issues with my background, but I don’t,” Mech said of whether his past would be a political liability in the race.
