Troy man finally receives father's WWII medals

After a seven-year wait, a Troy man has finally received the military medals and ribbons that his father earned 68 years ago in World War II.

Steve Skinner said he was emotional Tuesday when he finally saw the medals, pins and ribbons, which include the WWII Victory Medal and a Good Conduct Medal, that were awarded to his father, Robert Skinner.

"My grandchildren, my great-grandchildren, all generations will know ... how he fought for our freedoms," Skinner said about the medals.

Skinner, a Navy veteran who served in Vietnam, is a volunteer tour guide at the Miami Valley Veterans Museum in Troy. He wrote a book about his father's military service, titled "Robert's Journey," which was published two years ago.

"He was part of the Greatest Generation," Skinner said.
