Police attempted to arrest Harris on Dec. 5 in the 400 block of East Southern Avenue when the standoff took place, Hill said. He was wanted on one count of aggravated burglary, two counts of felonious assault and one count of discharging a firearm over a roadway.

Officers heard a gunshot from within the home when they arrived, Hill said, and it was believed that Harris was holed up in the house.

“Apparently he had escaped out a back window before anyone was able to get to the rear of the house,” Hill said.

Harris allegedly jumped out of a second story window to escape, police said. He could face additional charges related to the lengthy standoff, Hill said.

“We’re actually waiting for lab results at this time from evidence from that date,” he said.

Police were working with the Clark County Prosecutor’s Office as of Monday afternoon, Hill said, to determine what those charges could be.

A neighbor on East Southern Avenue who didn’t want to give her name told the Springfield News-Sun she was surprised the raid happened on her street.

“We don’t have that kind of stuff going on here too much,” she said.

Tiffany Harris, 24, of Dayton, has been charged with obstructing justice in connection with the case. Police alleged she told Kyle Harris police were looking for him, according to court records.

Texts on his phone allegedly showed Tiffany Harris had texted him descriptions of officers’ vehicles and warned him that the special operations team had been at her home, records show.

Kyle Harris pleaded not guilty in court on Monday and his bond was set at $53,000 for the current charges. Tiffany Harris had her case continued and no plea or bond was listed in her court records.
