Springfield police officers reported being attacked when called to an apartment on a tip of potential domestic violence.

The officers were called to 1209 E. John St., Apt. B on Sunday afternoon. A neighbor called the police to report hearing people stomping, a man screaming and a child crying.

When officers arrived, they were greeted by the suspect, later identified as Dale James, 25. James insisted that everything was fine and that the officers did not enter the apartment.

Officers reported seeing a woman on a couch inside, holding a small child. When an officer asked the woman to come to the door, James slammed the door on the officers, almost injuring the woman’s hand, according to the police report.

When the officer knocked on the door and stepped inside the doorway to talk to the woman, James attempted to tackle him. James continued to struggle with the officer, grabbing for his firearm.

After several minutes, the officers were able to take James down and place him in handcuffs, according to the report.

James was taken into custody for obstructing official business, aggravated robbery and resisting arrest.

He was placed in Clark County Jail.
