Man killed in two-vehicle crash

A man was killed Saturday in a two-vehicle crash that temporarily shut down an intersection on the border between Clark and Champaign counties.

The 63-year-old driver from the German Twp. area was pronounced dead at the scene of Upper Valley Pike and Storms Creek Road, according to a Champaign County deputy.

His identity was not released prior to this story going to press.

Witnesses told investigators the man was driving a silver Honda eastbound on Storms Creek when his vehicle collided with a white utility van that was northbound on Upper Valley Pike, according to the deputy.

The van traveled down an embankment after the impact and came to rest in a field. The adult male van driver was not hurt.

There are stop signs on Storms Creek and on the west side of the intersection, which is West County Line Road, but motorists on Upper Valley Pike do not have to stop.

Authorities said the preliminary investigation indicates the silver Honda failed to yield to the van, but the crash remains under investigation.

A fire crew from German Twp. on the Clark County side also responded to the scene.
