Looking back in Springfield: A 1900s ice storm

This winter has been a bit more aggressive than what we’ve seen locally in a few years, but thus far, we’re grateful we aren’t seeing storms like this one, the aftermath of which is shown here.

The icy image is undated and the exact location is unknown. But we know it comes from the late 1920s or early 1930s, and is the work of Frank Braun, who later lived in South Charleston and later ran Baker’s Cafeteria in Springfield.
