The Humane Society of Greater Dayton responded to a report the cat had been stuck for hours. When they arrived, the cat had worn down its nails clenching at the ground trying to escape. The pipe was too thick to easily remove the cat, which was scared. Humane society members gave the cat a sedative and rushed over a piece of the pipe to the Dayton Fire Department’s headquarters, according to the society.
It took two hours for firefighters, with the use of emergency equipment, to save the cat. Tired and scared, the cat, now named Piper, was taken to the Humane Society of Greater Dayton and examined by a veterinarian.
“We are so thankful for the hard work and assistance of those at the Dayton Fire Department,” Brian Weltge, president and CEO of the humane society stated. “We are also grateful for those in the community who were our eyes and ears and reported this injured cat to us."
Piper is recuperating from injuries to his feet and a swollen face from the many hours he spent struggling inside the pipe. He is expected to make a full recovery.
