Couple brings new type of spa to Urbana

Urbana residents Sharon and Brad Wallace have brought a new type of spa to the city.

NaCl, 646 Bodey Circle of Urbana, is a salt spa.

The NaCl Salt Spa, NaCl is the periodic table abbreviation for sodium chloride, features several different treatments including a children’s room, adult and adult group therapy seasons, salt yoga and massage therapy.

The idea for the store came when Sharon Wallace visited a salt spa in Plain City at the urging of her friend in order to help treat her asthma. Wallace said she noticed an immediate improvement in her breathing. She received the treatment in April and by June 19th, had opened the doors to NaCl in Urbana. “I thought, ‘what better way to get treatments than to do it myself?” she said.

Before opening NaCl, Wallace ran an in home day care but the results she received from the salt spa treatments were so successful that she decided to create NaCl.

Halotherapy, also known as dry salt therapy, is an exposure to kinetically activated dry salt where the micro sized particles are being inhaled while the large salt particles are spread on top of the skin. NaCl has several generators that take salt and break it down into micro molecules and blows it into the room for patients to breath and soak in.

Halotherapy is believed to positively treat conditions such as asthma, cystic fibrosis, respiratory infections, sleep apnea, skin pathology, and other conditions.

Wallace said that she knew of other locals who enjoyed the treatments, but didn’t want to make regular drives to Plain City. Because there are so few salt spas in Ohio, she hopes to serve the surrounding counties.

“Our hope is to give the benefit of salt therapy to the local communities and so they don’t have to travel so far to get those benefits,” Wallace said.

“We never recommend stopping any medications. We recommend checking with your doctor before coming in,” Wallace added.

In addition to their therapy services, bath salts, salt lamps, natural and Himalayan salt soaps are also sold at the store.
