Buzz around the Springfield performance has already gotten some toes tapping, proven by the upbeat promotional video released by the staff at Clark State.

The video released on YouTube and Facebook features a lot of the staff and technicians involved in the behind-the-scenes work promoting and setting the stage for the performance wearing the signature red boots from the musical.

But it also has some special guest appearances, including Lou Ross, executive director of the Springfield Symphony Orchestra, and Catie Maher, executive director of the Clark State Foundation.

The story of “Kinky Boots” follows a young man named Charlie after he takes over his father’s struggling shoe factory. When he meets an unusual performer named Lola and becomes inspired to start creating fashionable boots, his life — and his outlook — take on a drastic change.

Clark State Performing Arts Center Executive Director Adele Adkins said “Kinky Boots” is as close to a perfect musical as one can get.

“The show’s message, music, story, dancing, everything, appeals to people of all ages, men and women, creed or color,” she said. “Men who think they’re being dragged to ‘just another musical’ by the wife have almost more fun than anyone else. But this musical is actually more concerned about the human condition.”

Tickets for the performance are $35 to $60 and are available on Ticketmaster.com.
